The Treaty Of Waitangi

Have you ever heard of The Treaty Of Waitangi? Well if you haven’t you are going to find out.

There was a contract between the Maori and the British. James Busby a british man had given Hone Heke a letter saying, “There is a Treaty being written and we were wondering if you would sign it?” William Hobson had worked for the queen in the Britain.

The Treaty was about making peace and and quiet between the British and the Maori. They wanted to make peace because there were too many bad things going. Like prisoners were in prison in Britain, then the queen decided to take them to Australia. But unfortunately prisoners had escaped and came to New Zealand, Bay Of Islands. For example they were smashing bottles and throwing rubbish everywhere. The Maori’s did not approve of this.

So Hone Heke decided he wanted to put a stop to this. So he went to see William Hobson’s mate who wrote the Treaty and say I will be signing the Treaty. Hobson’s mate said it will be ready by the 6th of February. The days passed by and it was February the 6th. James Busby had translated it with his son. Then it was ready.

Approximately 50 Rangatira (Chiefs) had gathered around to sign the Treaty. Hone Heke was the first one to sign. The other Chiefs had then signed Moko as their signature.

The Pt England Way

The Pt England Way

The Pt England Way started 13 - 14 years ago. Since then The Pt England Way has showed visitors that has visited our school what our behaviour is like and how we respect each other. Not only that it has taught us to loom after one another and Love one another and care for another.

Did you know that it was originally called Belonging to Pt England but then they changed it to The Pt England Way. The Pt England Way was made in 2000 - 2001. That means it was made 14 - 13 years ago. The Pt England Way was invented by Mr Burt our Principal and a bit of help by Miss Melesia who is gone now. But it is great because look how far we have carried it on it is 2014 now so that is a long time. And we are still carrying it on.

The Pt England way is...... Showing People the right way, Being Trustworthy, Taking Charge of yourself, Having a positive attitude and it goes on. I wonder what would happen to Pt England School if we didn’t have the Pt England Way? Would it be the same as it is today or would it be completely different?

The Purpose of The Pt England way is so that when kids grow older and they have baby brothers or sisters that will come to this school they will know what the Pt England Way is and Why we have it. But they will also know how to Respect have a good behaviour and attitude. At Pt England School we want to make our students to feel safe and protected as much as we can. So it is good they we have more kids coming to Pt England School because they will be able to carry on the Pt England Way. Not only that, it would be a great example for them.

At Pt England School we have the 3 P’s and they are..... Partnership, Protection, and Participation. Those 3 P’s means, Working together, Co-operating, and keeping safe.

Pt England School is a safe and comfortable school. It is a great School for kids.
BETTER TOGETHER
